About
Kia Ora,
I live in West Auckland with my wife and children. I paint in watercolour (on waterolour paper) and acrylic (on canvas). Occasionally I'll use pen and ink, or other media such as natural dyes.
I've been painting for several decades, but I only started to digitise and sell my backlog in 2024. You'll probably notice this website evolve, as I add more paintings and options.
I'm interested in strong light and colour, and the impact of humans on the landscape, and on one another. Many of my paintings have a simple goal - comfort. Art that you can look at on a cold, dull winter's day to feel a little better. Others are a little more provocative.
Artists and movements I admire include Hopper, the Post-Impressionists and the Fauves. I also appreciate a lot of ancient art for its sense of proportion, balance, and simplicity.
You can order prints from the homepage; everything is printed and mailed from NZ.
If you want something different (a different size / surface, a painting that used to be listed but isn't any more, etc.) drop me a line via the Contact page.
Have a good one,
Hoagy
